Monarch Butterflies from the home of Pollination Station take just over a month to reach their wintering grounds in Mexico. They begin their arrival in Mexico during November and set up winter colonies in only a handful of protected sanctuaries.
To help track this wonderful journey Pollination Station, through the University of Kansas' "Monarch Watch," headstarted, tagged and released over 1500 Monarchs in the last 5 years. Each Butterfly was assigned a number and vital information was recorded and forwarded to the Monarch Watch Team. **

For a sponsorship of $25 you can support this valuable program. Receive periodic updates (e-mail required) of your caterpillar until it turns into a beautiful butterfly! When its metamorphosis is complete, a decorative certificate will be sent with your name, your butterfly's gender, location of release and release date, milkweed seeds, information on Monarchs and our exclusive "Plant Milkweed" caterpillar decal.
Proceeds benefit Monarch education, tagging and habitat conservation efforts.
** Harsh summer weather, reduction of habitat and unprecedented disasters in the overwintering colonies have diminished the population of Monarch Butterflies to an all time low. Headstarting and conservation efforts are critical in order for the Monarch population to reach previous numbers.
